QUICK FACTS

Address: 1717 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis

Built: Circa 1980's

Building size: Approximately 3,600 SF

Prior uses: Restaurant/Retail

This one-story early 1970s former Burger King restaurant was an abandoned building of approximately 3,600 square feet on the corner of Central Avenue NE and 18th Avenue NE in Minneapolis.

The property was an eyesore and a negative impact for a creative and energetic Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood. The interior and exterior were in very poor condition. Burger King’s former booths and seating were still mounted to the floor. Dated and worn neon artwork, posters, value meal promotions, and drink dispensers sat dormant in the old areas.

In 2012, we demolished all existing interior finishes and fixtures and began work on redeveloping the building. 1717 Central now has new windows, exterior fascia, interior build-out, and fresh finishes. The building was then being utilized for a daycare center with bright colors, natural light, and an outdoor play area.
